Area X encompasses Long beach and surrounding cities, plus all of Orange County. Within this region, we have over 4,300 members actively involved in protecting and enhancing our benefits. We enjoy a camaraderie among retired teachers and provide up-to-date information regarding services for seniors, as well as legislation with issues that affect us at the national and state levels and that protect public education.
Area X has been reaching out and is actively involved in our communities. We awarded over $69,500 in college scholarships to future teachers, grants, donations and supplies to active teachers, schools, and public libraries. We help support a food bank and donate clothing and books. At the Area’s annual Jump Start the Holiday Buffet, $1,000 in gift certificates were presented to the families of overseas personnel. We have volunteered over 262,000 hours in a variety of projects.
You are invited to join one of the six divisions in Area X. Come for lunch and other CalRTA activities. You could renew friendships or make new ones, and you will be welcomed by many who share some of your concerns.
